What Is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapists help individuals with purposeful, goal-directed interventions in assessing and treating persons with developmental and/or acquired disabilities. Occupational therapy helps participants become functionally independent with their daily routine. For children, these “occupations” include self-care, play and leisure skills, social participation, school, work, and volunteer services.

Occupational therapy evaluates and provides intervention in areas such as:

  • Small object manipulation
  • Handwriting
  • Sensory processing
  • Perceptual skills
  • Oral-motor skills
  • Activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, and toileting
  • Instrumental activities of daily living such as using the telephone, accessing transportation, and so on

The occupational therapist can help people achieve meaningful goals by enhancing growth and development, promoting inclusive environments, strengthening child-family bonds, increasing family engagement and participation in daily routines, improving academic skills, and building play and leisure skills.

What Is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy evaluates and provides intervention in areas such as gross motor functioning, body coordination, mobility in the home and community, and many other areas. Some people require adaptive equipment and adaptive play and undergo safety and prevention training. The primary purpose of physical therapy is to promote optimal human health and function. The physical therapist uses scientific principles to prevent, identify, assess, correct, or alleviate acute or prolonged movement dysfunction.

Physical therapy evaluates and provides intervention in areas such as:

  • Gross motor functioning
  • Body coordination
  • Mobility in the home and community
  • Adaptive equipment needs
  • Adolescent sports injuries
  • Pediatric orthopedics

What Is Speech Therapy?

Speech therapy helps a person improve their ability to communicate, eat, drink, and swallow.

Speech therapy evaluates and provides intervention and skill-building in areas such as:

  • Speech/articulation
  • Language
  • Oral-motor
  • Cognitive or thinking
  • Social
  • Mealtime

What if I don’t have enough space in my home?

Our therapists are trained to adapt to various environments. While some space is helpful, they can work with whatever space you have available to ensure you receive effective treatment. Just let them know about any space concerns, and they’ll make the necessary adjustments.

How do I prepare for the session, and what should I wear for physical therapy?

Set aside two chairs and identify a space where your therapist can set up a portable treatment table. Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in and make it easy for your therapist to access any areas of injury.

What if my pets get in the way during the session?

We love pets! However, consider placing them in another room or area during your therapy session if you’re concerned about them being distracting. Our therapists are accustomed to working in various home settings and can guide you on how best to handle pets during sessions.

For in-home visits, don’t you need access to heavy machines like that in a facility?

At TempoCare, we pride ourselves on providing comprehensive in-home care. Our therapists come equipped with all the necessary tools and equipment for a fully optimized session. Rest assured, we bring everything you need to make the most of your therapy, without the need for heavy machines.

What if I’m not comfortable with a stranger coming into my home?

We understand the importance of trust. Every TempoCare therapist undergoes a rigorous background check, is fully credentialed, and maintains high professional standards. Before your appointment, we’ll send you detailed information about your therapist, including their photo, so you know exactly who to expect. Our goal is to provide not only effective therapy, but also peace of mind.

How do you ensure safety while having someone in my home?

Your safety and comfort are our top priorities. All our therapists follow strict safety protocols and have been trained to maintain a professional demeanor at all times. In addition, by providing you with detailed information and a photo of your therapist beforehand, we aim to ensure transparency and security.
